About

Michelle Edwards

Who am I? Well… I am Michelle Edwards, Director of Agri-food Data Strategy at the University of Guelph and Adjunct faculty member of the Animal Bioscience Department also at the University of Guelph. I’ve been working in the field of data and statistical analyses for more than 20 years – I could say 25 years now. Eek! That makes me sound old – but I’m not! Really!! I’m Not!

I’ve held a variety of positions over the years including Director of Data Services at the Cornell Institute for Social and Economic Research at Cornell University, the inaugural Academic Director of the University of Guelph Branch Research Data Centre, and the first Statistical Consultant for the University of Guelph’s Ontario Agricultural College (OAC), where I was instrumental in providing data management and research expertise to our community by supporting experimental design, statistical analysis and production of journal article reviews.

My academic credentials include a PhD from the Department of Animal Biosciences from OAC, a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario, a MSc from Dalhousie University, and a BSc(Agr) from the former Nova Scotia Agricultural College.

Wow! Impressed yet? Nah.. The BIG question that needs to be answered here is WHY? Why engage in the adventure of officially starting AGRICOLA CONSULTING? I miss working with students, researchers, and industry in the realm of statistics and experimental design, and really wanted to create something that is accessible to all outside of my “day job”. So please join me on what I’m sure will be a fun and rewarding journey for all.

Building stories with your data

Building stories with your data can only happen with clear research questions and a matching experimental design. These are the first steps to any successful research study.

Critically evaluating and understanding research outputs, is a great skill to take with you as you further your career or as you enjoy reading and appreciating all the wonderful research that is created.
